The Santa Isabel Kindergarten is located in Sal-Rei, on the island of Boavista, and has been welcoming children from the local community since 2010. It is a place where the little ones can grow in a safe environment, play and learn while their parents work. Today, the kindergarten accommodates around 40 children and continues to strive to ensure a quality, inclusive and family-friendly service. The commitment is to be able to increase the number of children looked after and consequently offer educational support for families.

What we do
- Games and Education: We help children develop motor, cognitive and social skills through activities designed for their age.
- Nutritious Meals: We offer balanced meals to help children grow up healthy and strong.
- Creative and Environmental Activities: We offer recycling workshops, handicrafts and outdoor activities to make children aware of the importance of respecting the environment.
- Family Support: We are open with flexible hours from early in the morning until late at night, to meet the needs of working parents, especially in the tourism sector.
Since 2023, an important part of the support comes from commissions generated by tourists’ purchases on the Boavista Official website, through the company Travelware. Every online purchase generates commissions, part of which are donated to the kindergarten on a monthly basis. This model of support helps us cover some essential expenses, but we always need the help of those who believe in our mission. With the donations we mainly buy basic necessities, hygiene material and meals for the children.
Boavista is a growing island, but the resources to support families and children’s education are insufficient. The public administration cannot cover all the needs of the kindergartens, and the financial contribution of families is often not enough to cover the main expenses such as energy, water, meals and maintenance. Therefore, the kindergarten depends on the help of partners and donors to guarantee its services and to improve the facilities.
How to Check Our Work
Understanding how your help makes a difference is important. That is why we invite anyone who wishes to do so to visit the kindergarten, which is located in the centre of Sal-Rei, next to the Cartório, the city’s notary’s office. You can contact teacher Laura, via whatsapp +2389700040.
We are open for visits from Monday to Friday, during the morning. In this way, you can see our space and the commitment of the staff. We will be happy to show you how we work and answer any questions.
Your Help Matters
Your support is essential to ensure a welcoming and stimulating environment for the children at the Santa Isabel Kindergarten. Some visitors choose to contribute basic necessities or useful materials. We do not ask for money online, but invite you to visit the kindergarten and possibly make arrangements directly with the teachers. Here are some things the kindergarten always needs:
- Educational and Creative Materials: Picture books, puzzles, posters, dolls, toy cars, educational games, paints, paper, small balls or beach games and materials for manual activities.
- Clothing and Accessories: Backpacks, bibs, baby bottles, clothes for children aged 2 to 5, sun hats, light shoes, sheets and towels.
If you are already in Boavista and want to bring something before you leave, you can contact us to find out what is most urgently needed. Donating is always a beautiful but delicate experience. We are aware of the neediest families and we will make sure that we do not put the parents at a disadvantage.
Do not bring food or hygiene products, we especially need things that cannot be bought in Boavista, such as small toys or accessories.
